Meet  the  Masters'  Silent  Art  Auction

This will be the second year that our Meet the Masters Docents will hold a mock art auction of our Meet the Masters prints they will be displaying.  Docents will present the print’s information, such as the title, style of art, artist name, and brief biography.  The Docents will offer to Arts Alive guests to "bid" on their favorite print by writing an art criticism about the print they chose.

Each print will be accompanied by a collection box, clip board, and bid sheets with space for the bidders name, teacher’s name, and the "bid", which will be in the form of a detailed judgmental reason why they like the piece well enough to want to purchase it (known as an art criticism statement).

Students will have ample time to write in their critical bid statements.  The bids will be put into boxes on the tables nearby.  At the end of the evening the bids are collected and read (by me).  Award certificates will be created for valid bids for each print, the ones that have a good attempt at an art criticism statement.

Winners of Meet the Masters Art Auction Certificates will be announced at the VSY Morning Announcement program shortly therafter.  Students will come down to the Media Center to be presented with their 8-1/2”x11” personalized color certificate with a copy of their print of choice, suitable for framing, testifying that they are a bonafide Art Critic.

Those of you who participated and received awards and your classmates who saw them know how beautiful those certificates were!!

Meet  the  Masters'  "Pick-a-Poem"

Another new idea for Arts Alive - "pick a line from our line....verse from our clothesline, that is!" Last year, we tried something new at the last minute.  It was a pretty fair success.  We added the Literary Arts to Arts Alive!  If you were there, you may have noticed the clothesline strung with small paper notes containing short funny or wise poems.  Our Arts Alive guest were free to pick a poem to enjoy and take home.

Last year, due to short notice, the poems were reprinted from already published poetry by British author,
Patrick Winstanley, and some others.  But this year, we want to see what our VSY students have to artfully say!  Hopefully, students will have a few months to write a few short (again... funny or wise) poems to print up and give away on the clothesline.  These poems can be any form from Haiku to Concrete, Rhyme to Free Form.  It doesn't need to be on the subject of visual art, but if it does - all the better!!

Challenge:  Who can fill in the middle part below?  Email it to me.

There once was an artist named VanGogh...............
[ .......blah blah blah etc etc. - fill in this part with your own words..... ]
............and he cut off his ear.
                                                                                                                     Oh dear!

Choice of Uses at Arts Alive!:

1) Given out as collectibles at each Station in the Masters Studio by the "Station's Master"  after the person has participated in that station's activity.  The picture side would feature a famous work by the artist or art form of that station.

    - or -

2) Given out at a watercolor station in the Masters' Studio as an activity, to paint the picture side as an orginal work of art by the participant, imitating a particular well-known style of art.
